In the fall of 2009, I was at a stage in my life in which I was very unhappy with the way I looked due to my obesity and how it was not only affecting my self-esteem but, most importantly, my health. I remember running across the street one morning to catch the bus and after boarding, being completely out of breath, heart racing in my chest, and feeling very scared; scared that the loss of breath and accelerated heart beat could lead to a worse condition. At the time, I remember thinking that this was a warning sign and that someone in his late thirties should not be experiencing such symptoms. I knew it was time to make a change. I had to take control of my obesity and begin to incorporate some type of weight loss program in my life. However, I knew that I did not just want to crash diet or jog on a treadmill for the sake of saying that I did a half hour’s worth of jogging. I knew I needed guidance and instruction from a trained professional. I knew that I wanted my workouts to really mean something and benefit my body. I knew, most importantly, that I wanted to work with a trainer that would guide, instruct, and discipline me to achieve a goal that I thought was unattainable: to be physically fit.
In my search for a personal trainer, I was very fortunate to find Eric. During our initial consultation, Eric took the time to get to know me and gain a full understanding as to why I wanted to work with a trainer. His main goal was to ensure that I, through hard work and dedication, would reach my goal.
There is never a dull moment whenever I train with Eric. The constant change in our workout sessions has enabled me to become accustomed to change, which will also ensure that my body not reach a plateau. Eric also taught me how to use correct form to prevent injuries and to stretch correctly at the end of each session.
Most importantly, during my most self-deprecating and doubtful moments, Eric has been there to ‘snap’ me out of that state of mind and put me back on the path of focusing on the workout. The results do not happen overnight, as he has said to me time and time again, but I am very proud to say that after having worked out with Eric as my trainer for over a year, I feel and look great. I have not been this thin in over ten years and this transformation has absolutely boosted my level of confidence. Most importantly, the loss of breath, lower back pain, heel spurs and other physical ailments that I used to experience due to being overweight have all gone away. That is the best feeling. I am confident that without Eric, I would not be able to say that I love the way I look and feel.
