I was always one of those "thin without trying people" so I had never really put much energy into working out or eating right. The summer I entered my late twenties, it all caught up with me. It was as if I had traded metabolisms with a totally different person. I started seeing the pounds creep on. My clothes were getting tighter and I started shying away from the camera since I hadn't taken a good photo in months. I started getting depressed about it and decided that I needed to do something.
My friend and I resolved to start working out. We would meet at the gym at 6 AM every morning before work. After about an hour we would hang up our towels and head to the locker rooms. After two months of this, I started to wonder why I wasn't getting any thinner, and why I wasn't in any better shape. How could I be working out for an hour, five days a week, and see no difference?
I decided to take a more drastic measure. I needed someone to walk me through this. After all, I obviously wasn't doing it the right way. That's when I hired Eric as my personal trainer. After my first session with him the problem was clear. What I thought was "working out" was, in fact, not. The next day I woke up too sore to move, but oddly happy about it because I felt that FINALLY I was doing something that would make a difference.
Eric corrected my form; he taught me the right way to do every exercise, and what order to do them in. He even helped tackle my body image issues. After working out with Eric for 3 months, I saw such a difference that I went out and bought a bikini!
Eric has become an indispensable part of my life. I look forward to my sessions with him as a break from my day, a chance to channel any negative energy into something positive and a chance to learn new things to challenge me. I have never found any of my workouts boring since he changes my programs to adapt to my personal needs.
I started running as a result of my newfound appreciation for working out and this summer completed my goal - my first 10K race!

An Update from Emily:
Now that I've been working with Eric for 3 years, I can honestly say my training has never "stalled". He constantly finds new ways to make my workouts interesting and challenging as my fitness level increases. He has trained me in my apartment, at the park, on the rooftop of my building and at the gym. In all those places my workouts have always been challenging and innovative, never boring.
As my fitness level increased, Eric has helped me change and modify my goals to keep challenging myself. This year, with Eric's help, I did something that has been on my bucket list for years. I ran the New York City Marathon. If you had asked me 3 years ago if I thought I would ever be capable of running a marathon, my answer would have been a resounding "absolutely not". Eric supported me when I signed up and we spent the entire year working on exercises that would strengthen me for running and stretches that would prevent injury. He modified my workout plan to accommodate my intense training schedule and provided amazing mental support along the way. I can honestly say that I would have never been able to cross the finish line without him!
